Craltech Study Case

Case Study: Centralized AV Routing on a Fishing Vessel with an 8x8 HDMI Video Processor in the Mediterranean

Overview
A fishing operator running a modern vessel in the Mediterranean has deployed one of Craltech’s 8x8 HDMI Video Processors to streamline the bridge’s AV layer. Plotters, sonar, radar, machinery feeds, PCs and other operational sources are all consolidated into one centralized routing platform, giving the crew a single, consistent overview of the vessel’s signals alongside their primary stations.

A single 8x8 video processor with 8 inputs and 8 outputs feeds eight bridge monitors that can be flexibly addressed from three different operator points distributed across the vessel.

Project Objective
On a long-shift fishing vessel, the operators need to glance at the right feed at the right moment — without leaving their station or fighting with cabling. The challenge was managing multiple operational sources (plotters, sonar, radar, machinery feeds, PCs) and being able to push any of them to any of the eight bridge monitors quickly, from three different control points across the vessel.

The goal: a centralized AV routing layer that is intuitive, fast and operator-friendly — a single tool to clear the visual noise and give the crew an at-a-glance overview of the available feeds, alongside their primary navigation systems.

The Solution: 8x8 Video Processor Integration
one of Craltech’s 8x8 HDMI Video Processors consolidates the operational sources into one hardware-based platform with full any-to-any routing. Built on FPGA technology, it guarantees seamless switching with real-time processing and zero operating-system dependencies for reliable 24/7 operation.

Bridge configuration:
8 inputs: plotters, sonar, radar, machinery feeds, PCs and other operational signals are aggregated into a single matrix.
8 outputs: a centralized AV view is distributed across eight bridge monitors arranged along the operator stations.
Any-to-any routing: any source can be sent to any monitor at any time, with seamless switching.
Multiview & video wall: layouts can be saved and recalled per operator preference, giving each station the view it needs.
Three control points: routing can be driven from three different operator stations distributed across the bridge.

Seamless Control with StreamDeck
To make the operator experience completely intuitive, the routing is controlled directly via three StreamDeck panels from Elgato — one at each of the three operator stations on the bridge. The three StreamDecks are connected to a single PC that drives the video processor.

From any of the three StreamDecks, the operator can route any input to any monitor with a single button press. No extra glue devices, no walking to a central rack — just a clear, intuitive control surface that turns the routing into a one-touch action and lets each operator shape the view from their own station.

Why This Matters
On a fishing vessel running long shifts, the crew benefits from a clear, consolidated overview of the operational feeds. By consolidating multiple source types into a single centralized video processor and exposing the routing through three StreamDeck points distributed across the bridge, Craltech delivers a centralized AV layer that supports the crew’s workflow alongside their primary navigation systems.
